Pope Francis on Same-Sex Marriage: 'A Move of the Father of Lies;' 'A Total Rejection of God's Law'

In 2010, when his native Argentina was considering a proposal to legalize same-sex marriage, Pope Francis I, then archbishop of Buenos Aires, said that the legislation was a total rejection of God's law and an effort by the father of lies to confuse and deceive humanity.
Then-Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio made these observations in a letter to a group of monasteries in Argentina, in which he asked the sisters for their prayers in defeating the same-sex marriage legislation.  A conclave of Roman Catholic cardinals elected Cardinal Bergoglio the new pope on Wednesday, and he took the papal name of Francis.
“In the coming weeks, the Argentine people will face a situation whose outcome can seriously harm the family," then-Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio wrote, according to a July 8, 2010 article in the National Catholic Register.
"At stake is the identity and survival of the family: father, mother and children," said Cardinal Bergoglio. "At stake are the lives of many children who will be discriminated against in advance, and deprived of their human development given by a father and a mother and willed by God. My Take - It will be interesting to see how much this impacts Joe Biden, since he claims that the Catholic Church plays an essential role in his life.
