Nuclear pitched as the new green

By Evan Halper Tribune Washington Bureau

The state that spawned a generation of activists committed to shutting down nuclear reactors and crippling the industry has lately become a hotbed of advocacy and financial support for fighting global warming with, of all things, nuclear power. Encouraged by the Obama administration, notable California innovators and financiers are looking to reinvent the industry in the mold of wind and solar power. They are betting on prototype technologies that seek to replace the hulking plants of today with smaller, nimbler units. Environmentally minded nuclear engineers argue that they can be designed so safely that they might be "huggable." They talk of power plants that consume nuclear waste instead of creating it. ....Read more

My Take- I can assure you those greenies who've fallen off the "true environmentalist" wagon will be attacked. The green movement has no command and control system, so no matter what agreements are made with one group the other groups will attack all parties of that agreement - including those former allies they now view as treasonous.

Having said that - things are going to take a seismic shift in the green movement when it comes to energy - if they desire any credibility with the general population. Society has realized - finally - environmentalists hate energy - all energy - and only adopt schemes that aren't available or viable. At least until some poor foolish businessman finds a way to make it available, even if it's not economically viable, and then they attack.

But their true power to influence government lies in scaring the beejeebers out of people. But nothing scares society more than not having electricity on demand. Society has finally received enlightenment and has defined what it means to be green, even if it's only at an emotional versus intellectual level. To be green is to be irrational, misanthropic and morally defective. And not having power on demand. Lack of energy is the beginning of wisdom.
