President Obama made time for another
fund-raiser on Tuesday, on the same day he announced that "on my orders,
America's armed forces began strikes against ISIL targets in Syria." Obama, in New York to address the U.N.
General Assembly on Wednesday, took time to raise money for two Democratic
senators Tuesday evening. In his remarks, he used his newly launched war and
other crises to tout "American leadership" -- his own policies -- as
the bright spot in a disordered world: "And the good news is, this week
what you're seeing is what American leadership means." As examples of
American leadership, Obama mentioned the U.S.-led coalition of five Arab
nations, "all united around fighting ISIL"; his administration's
"unprecedented investment" in Liberia's Ebola epidemic; and his plan
to have the U.S. take the lead on climate change. "So what we've seen is American leadership
at its best," Obama said.….
Barack Obama’s address to the U.N.
General Assembly was so insubstantial, so full of airy platitudes, and so
adulterated with the gaseous clichés of bankrupt internationalism and
progressive bromides that I thought at any minute he might just float away. First was the obligatory call “to renew
the purpose of the U.N.’s founding,” which apparently is “to observe and
enforce international norms,” the most important being “to ensure that no
nation can subjugate its neighbors and claim their territory” and to promote
“the path of diplomacy and peace and the ideals this institution is designed to
uphold.” Such phrases are so common and uncritically received that we forget
“international norms” do not exist. Different peoples have different “norms”
about, for example, the use of violence to achieve their aims. Nations will
sign treaties that seemingly express our norms, but that doesn’t mean they
believe in them. More often, such treaties are mere mechanisms for one nation
to get what it wants from another. The sorry history of U.S. arms-control
treaties with the Soviet Union and then Russia, treaties the Russians violated
for decades to improve their nuclear arsenal at our expense, is just one
example......From that preposterous beginning, the speech went downhill......
How Obama's Treasury just helped Tyco and other 'Benedict Arnold' corporations
President Obama's Treasury Department recently issued new rules aimed at punishing companies that seek out friendlier or saner corporate tax codes through so-called "corporate inversions." Read Politico's Morning Money today, and you see the perverse consequences that could flow from these new rules. Ben White quotes an expert: Guggenheim’s Chris Krueger: “The Treasury and IRS issued very targeted and more aggressive than anticipated anti-inversion rules … We anticipate a rigorous pushback for overly politicizing and overcomplicating an issue that is not resonating with voters, which likely means this regulation is probably the limit of Treasury unilateral action … The regulations mention nothing on income stripping, debt vs. equity characteristics, or retroactivity. Any company that has inverted can stay inverted — and companies can still invert provided they meet all the legal thresholds…..
Obama to create the world's largestprotected marine territory, , September 24, 2014
President Obama will expand a protected marine habitat to six times its current size, making it the largest aquatic area off limits to development in the world, the White House said Wednesday. Obama will officially sign a proclamation increasing the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument in the south-central Pacific Ocean on Thursday to 490,000 square miles. The White House said it would help revive overfished populations, such as tuna, and preserve coral reefs that support marine life.....
From
time to time I hear President Obama described as “an evil genius”, but he is
neither. He’s not evil. He’s something much worse. He is a fool who thinks he’s
a genius. This is not about his intelligence. No one gets to be President of
the United States without some degree of intelligence. One suspects, however,
Obama has always relied more on his charm and, initially, on the illusion of
his charisma, based on his depiction by an adoring press. His charisma has
disappeared, even among the same press, but most abundantly among the American
people of all political persuasions who now regard him as one recent poll put
it, the worst
President
the nation has ever had.......
