Eyewitness Account: Health Effects of Industrial Wind Turbines

by | Oct 23, 2023 | , , @ America Out Loud

Imagine waking up one morning to the sound of a loud jet aircraft. But unlike a jet that soon flies away, this sound never ends and so immerses you with cyclical noise, light flicker, and bone-shaking infrasound over and over forever. You look out your window and see a three-megawatt industrial wind turbine, 602 ft. tall, four times taller than the Statue of Liberty, only 550 meters from your house.

For people living in West Lincoln township, Ontario, this is a real-life nightmare they experience all the time, every day. Despite promising otherwise, the government of Ontario allowed the erection of 77 of these massive IWTs in West Lincoln.

In this important interview, host Tom Harris and guest Shellie Correia of Wellandport, Ontario, discuss what it’s really like to live so close to such a turbine. Correia has the misfortune to have the turbine pictured at right practically in her backyard despite fighting bravely against the project in every way conceivable—writing to and meeting with her elected representatives, educating her community about IWT health hazards, speaking out through the media, creating an anti-IWT activist group and even organizing protests.

Correia and her son Joey (pictured above at an anti-wind turbine protest) now have years of experience with the problems caused, not just while the turbines are in operation but also during the massive disruption to the local community when they are being constructed. Shellie said, “The respect for the people who allowed the turbines to be installed on their property has never returned, even a decade later.”

Listen to today’s program to learn why everyone, not just rural residents who suffer with these loud, bird and bat-killing turbines near their homes, must speak out against the massive expansion of these inefficient machines worldwide. This episode is especially important for residents concerned about IWT projects planned for their counties since Correia also explains how rural residents can fight back against these projects.
