This article appeared at the Washington Examiner today. Kerry: We'll negotiate with Assad in Syria - "The secretary of state acknowledged that a military solution to end Syria's civil war will not work and that a diplomatic and political strategy is needed to stop the bloody civil war between Assad's government and rebel forces that has killed more than 200,000 people."
Kerry goes on to say "We have to negotiate in the end”, with the apparent goal of forming a “transitional” government, and if Assad won’t do it then Kerry says “steps will be taken to increase pressure on him”. Really? Exactly what steps could he take to make his life worse? Is this another meaningless “Red Line” that won’t be carried out, once again leaving Obama and his crew look even dumber than Jimmy Carter and his failed coterie? Remember that it was Carter who undermined the Shah of Iran allowing Khomeini and his radicals to take over, leaving the world with the disastrous debris of his foreign policy.
Better to do nothing and thought a fool than develop policies that are not well thought out, if thought out at all! Especially when those policies leave one perceived as a confused, indecisive, untrustworthy, backstabbing ally.
As this whole Syrian mess unfolded I’ve been somewhat amused, saddened and horrified at this whole fiasco. Saddened and horrified at the human carnage and amused at the take on them by people like John McCain, and conservatives. We need to get this! There’s no fixing these people!
Obama pontificated about “red lines” and then did pretty much nothing. Which for the first time I agreed! He should have done nothing in Libya, Egypt, Tunis, not only allowing radicals to take over those countries, he supported them. There’s no fixing these messes.
There will never be a democratic system in the Middle East as we understand it in the United States because they’re Islamists. That means they must submit to those in charge. Islam isn’t a religion. It’s a political criminal organization masquerading as a religion requiring total submission. There's no room for individualism in such a system, and that's what's foundational to American democracy.
These Muslim nations are filled with medieval tribal societies with medieval values, only now they have modern weapons and modern transportation. And oil! Otherwise they would still be riding Arabian stallions in flowing robes raiding and murdering rival tribes for their water rights and raping their women.
They’re going to butcher each other no matter what anyone does, so why bother? Just drill for our own oil and let them fix their own problems because they simply have no concept of reality in the same way that non-Muslims do. If the most radical Muslims take over in these places that might even be better because we saw what happened in Afghanistan when the radicals took over– the country was a social and economic mess. If the rest of the Muslim world wasn’t so oil wealthy and supporting these insane groups it would have been even worse, but most importantly there wouldn't have been an opportunity for Osama Ben Laden to carry out his terrorist attacks from Afghanistan. Because If there's no oil money there's no terrorist funding.
Everything done there was nothing more than a brief respite before it started all over again, and when the west pulls out it will go right back to where it was. Kicking the snot out of the Taliban was one thing. That's what Jefferson did with the Barbary pirates - a couple of times - and then went home. Staying and attempting to perform a miracle of social engineering in a Muslim country is another thing entirely. They are culturally incapable of grasping what they’re being offered. Every such effort is doomed to failure as long as they are practitioners of Islam.
And now Kerry is – once again – reporting for duty! Perhaps Johnny U-Turn would do everyone a favor and go AWOL!
