Zuma’s ‘enemy within’ seems to be an accepted way of life
AWARENESS of corruption implies the possibility of a sense of shame or, at least, of public revulsion. It is a far more critical matter when people don’t even know their rotten behaviour is dishonest, when they think of it as either their due or an acceptable custom.
So it was undoubtedly with no sense of irony that President Jacob Zuma recently warned an African National Congress (ANC) meeting against "the enemy within". He denounced ill-discipline, factionalism and corruption, warning: "The enemy is always present … in different guises, sizes and shapes." The embodiment of those iniquities is, flagrantly, Zuma himself.
During his tenure we have witnessed a carnival of corruption. Exposés of the squandering or looting of public money are published almost daily. Yet presidential inaction or vacillation in the face of overwhelming evidence is standard. As head of state, he sets a dire example.
My Take – This isn’t just South Africa’s problem. This is all of Africa’s problem! A continent with such rich natural resources has a massive problem with corruption at the highest level and massive poverty at the lowest level that it makes it impossible for the people to lift themselves up on their own. Untold billions have gone into Africa in the form or aid. Where is all that money? The reality is that it has been stolen by the “leaders” of these countries. Corruption is common in any government you look at, but in Africa it is so huge it is crippling the existence of the some of the poorest people in the world. I would like to point out that South Africa was one of the most economically successful nations on the planet until these socialists took over. Why? If you look closely at China, Russia and any other socialist nation you will find the same problem….corruption so massive it is undermining their stability....and that is who the enemy with-in really is....the leadership themselves.
