Well, as I've said in the past - Prediction is really hard, especially about the future....and I don't care who said it first.
I will be the first to admit I'm amazed at what's going on with Trump and Bernie. Both have been perpetual joke candidates for President and I think they're both as shocked as the rest of us they're where they are.
At this point it appears Bernie's still in this thing (according to the NYT he has 349 + 284 delegates versus Hillary with 544 + 453) in spite of Hillary's victories, but the numbers are against him. A Democrat needs 2382 delegates to win the nomination. At this point I don't think he can win enough to even force a brokered convention. I think Bernie's done, and I wonder if he and Hillary might not cut a deal and have Bernie as her running mate. That would be interesting to watch. That would satisfy the young, the stupid and the radical who love Bernie and those who are just stupid and radical who support Hillary. But perhaps she might ask John Kasich who I think would do anything to be the Vice President, and that wouldn't be that much of a break for him as he isn't all that much out of harmony with Hillary. By the way, there are polls showing he's going to do very well in Ohio. I don't believe that.
According to the NYT Trump took Ala., Ark, Ga., Mass., Teen., Vt., Va., with a total of 285 + 203. Cruz took Alaska, Oklahoma and Tex., and is second with 161 + 144. Rubio too Minn., with 87 + 71. Rubio took Minnesota? I thought that was unusual, until I remembered Minnesota was largely settled by Scandinavians who have a bit of a socialist infection running through their genes. Carson with 25 + 19 and Kasich with 8 + 3, neither of whom took any state. The Republican nominee needs 1,237 delegates to win.
I'm just amazed at these Southern states and their evangelical base choosing Trump. He's a con artist of the first order. As for all these great deals he's made, we can only hope he's not in charge of deal making for the nation soon, because he's made some really stinko deals, that cost others a great deal of money. And he's certainly not a conservative, his plans - what few he outlines - are ludicrous, and his character is seriously flawed. He's a phony on immigration - right along with Rubio, another phony - he's a petulant spoiled brat who can dish it out but can't take it and loves being surrounded by boot lickers. Even with his distasteful history these seemingly religious conservatives have decided one corrupt egomaniac in the White House isn't enough! He's only just a little less frightening than Bernie or Hillary.
After the Nevada primary it became obvious the evangelicals are now politically irrelevant. So what's going on in these people's minds.
Now we come to Carson and Kasich. So why are Carson and Kasich still wasting money on this thing? I would think this would be a great opportunity to take a side and use the finances they have left to support their choice. Don't you think? I've not been impressed with Kasich for some time starting with the middle of his first term as Governor of Ohio, and his motives are obvious. With his actions he's in effect saying - "Someone please, please, please pick me as Vice President ...please, please, please." But Carson is becoming a dissapointment to me. I gave him more credit than that. If he's staying in to get offered a spot in a Republican administration - it's my opinion he's got it if he wants it. Especially if it's Surgeon General. But it appears he too wants a V.P. spot. Who would Carson support if and when he drops out? I'm not sure any more because I'm not sure who he is now.
Kasich will support anyone who will cut him a deal. Fortunately for Ohio he's term limited and will be out of a job. What happens in Ohio after that is up in the air. Ohio's Republican Party is very reflective of the Republican Party nationwide. Ten years ago the party was outlined in this manner. Thirty percent Rockefeller Republicans in the leadership, five percent Ron Paul Libertarians and the remaining sixty five percent were varying degrees of Reagan Republicans. I think that's changed to some extent in Ohio and the nation. There are fewer Rockefeller Republicans in the leadership and more Libertarians of varying degrees at the other end of the spectrum, making the party base more conservative overall, at least in appearance, but this Trump hysteria makes one wonder what they believe over what they say they believe.
It's my opinion after this election the Rockefeller Republicans will be out of the leadership almost entirely. And that will be true in Ohio also. In fact, the Republican Party as we know it may not even exist after this election, especailly if the leadership in some way forces a brokered convention and put their boy Jeb Bush in as the nominee. If that happens Hillary will be the next President of the United States.
There's a reason the Republicans are called the 'stupid party' and the Democrats are called the 'party of treason'.
On Saturday Kansas and Louisana will hold elections for Democrats and Republicans. Kentucky and Maine will make their choices know for the Republicans and Nebraska will hold it's Democratic caucases. I still think sanity will finally settle in and Cruz will be chosen for the Republicans. Even if one doesn't like him he's the only one who actually understands what's going on and has the courage to stand up and do smehting about it. He's no demogogue like Trump and he's not charming and good looking like Rubio, and he's just not the type to ever be a beloved character. But he is brilliant and has the values we all say we want in a leader. Trump has no core values, no moral foundation. Trump is for Trump. I saw Trump saying in an inteview he can change into anything he wants. I believe him! He's just a little less frightening than Bernie and Hillary.
