To pull a rabbit out of a hat, there has to be a hat. In a speech in January 2013, British prime minister David Cameron promised to negotiate a fundamental reworking of Britain’s relationship with the European Union. There would then be a referendum to decide whether Brits wanted to quit the union or stick with it to enjoy the “new settlement” Cameron had secured. There was bold, delusional, or dishonest (take your pick, I’ll go for dishonest) talk of strengthening the EU’s “democratic legitimacy,” of opting out of the forced march toward “ever closer union,” of power “flowing back” to the member states, of an increased role for national parliaments. Euroskeptics scoffed. They were right to. There was no hat. The EU is what it is, and what it is not is some sort of super-free-trade zone: If Cameron got what he wanted, it would no longer be the EU. The rest of the EU was never going to go along with that.......It’s customary at times like this to drag out tired old analogies with poor Neville Chamberlain, so notoriously swindled by a wily foreigner at Munich, but that comparison doesn’t work here. No one has swindled Cameron, but if he sells this deal, he will have swindled his country.....

My Take - There is one thing I would like to clarify. This is not the Neville Chamberlain scenario exactly. True there's all the same delusions, the same rationalizations, the same willingness to compromise hoping that compromise will lead to sanity when history has shown unendingly.....it doesn't. So why is this different than what Chamberlain did? It's actually quite simple - Chamberlain was doing what the British wanted him to do - and that was do anything to prevent them from going to war again.
We have to remember 1939 was only 21 years after the end of WWI and the horrors and memories of the slaughter were still fresh in the minds of the British people. Their losses were overwhelming. Estimates of those soldiers lost to famlies of the Bristish Empire range anywhere from 752,000 to 1,012,075. And the wounded of all services amounted to approximately 1,668,570, many crippled for life. They would have done anything to keep the peace. Chamberlain knew that and acted accordingly.
Cameron is not acting in accordance with the desires of the British people. But - who in all of Europe is acting in the best interestes of their traditional ethnic populations? Europe is doomed and the leadership of the European peoples are responsible. Well....the people of Europe chose them. Their getting what the deserve. But we can't claim any immunity from this insanity because have much the same problem as the Europeans when it comes to chosing good leadership, as we seem to think clever catch phrases from egomaniacs like Obama and Trump is good leadership. We've lost our minds!
The world is driving headlong into an abyss of economic, moral and philosophical dystopia fueled by worldwide violence on an unprecedented scale and world's leaders are pushing on the gas pedal. My long range vision for the world's future is dismal because all of this is so obviously insane, and yet there's no effort to hit the brakes and say - Stop! This is madness!
