Lawmakers demand jail time for IRS scandal

'We need to find out where the hell the buck stops with this administration' - Furious over revelations that the Internal Revenue Service targeted conservative groups seeking nonprofit status, several Republicans are now demanding jail time for anyone involved in the scandal.  “Now my question isn’t about who is going to resign,” House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, told reporters. “My question is who’s going to jail over this scandal?”  Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., told Fox News, “We’re not interested in retirements and forced ousters, we’re interested in people going to jail.”.......To Read More .....

My Take - Jail?  Isn't that a little harsh?  After all they just made some little mistakes because of not understanding their own regulations and U.S. tax laws.  Hmmm....when was the last time anyone at the IRS accepted that argument as an excuse for not paying the taxes they owed?  Oh....I remember.  When former Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Congressman Charlie Rangel got caught cheating....oops....making a mistake.... on their taxes because of not understanding the tax laws.  No penalty and no fines.  See; the IRS can be very understanding.....and the reason why they can be so understanding is because there is no such thing as a conspiracy.  Furthermore, corruption doesn't exist among the high officials in the federal government, or in the bureaucracy.  Right?  We can accept that argument can't we?

There is one thing that bothers me though.  They claim is that this isn't corruption, but incompetence.  If that is so, then how can all these incompetent people enforce the tax laws properly?   As is often the case, the question creates the solution, so I have the answer to this problem.  Repeal the 16th amendment, eliminate the IRS is it is currently configured and pass a national sales tax.  The money we would save by just eliminating the IRS as we know it would be massive.  Not the mention the money every person and every business in the country would save by not having to pay accounting fees and/or salaries.
