Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-Kan.) said he supports efforts to defund Planned Parenthood at the federal level, and when looking to cut the federal budget, he said, Planned Parenthood is "one good place to start.” “You would think out of a $3.7 trillion dollar budget, we could find somewhere to cut and certainly that’s one good place to start,” Huelskamp told CNSNews.com at a Capitol Hill media event on Tuesday.
During a monthly media briefing with a small group of House conservatives in which Huelskamp referenced the 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision,…..Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) introduced HR 61 which would prevent the Department of Health and Human Services from providing federal funds to “abortion businesses” such as Planned Parenthood, unless the organization proves it no longer performs or refers for abortions. Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.) re-introduced on Jan. 4 HR 217, entitled the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act, initially introduced by former Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) If enacted, HR 217—which currently has 48 co-sponsors in the House-- would prohibit family planning grants from going to abortion providers.
