The work that the average citizen patriot has done to change the makeup of the federal executive branch and of Congress has been commendable. All the work, worry, and stress of trying to put America on the right track through local, energetic activism during primaries and general elections has gained for us an upper hand on the true destroyers of America, the far Left and their Democratic Party.
We continue to work in our own states to do the same thing, as we must, because there is no possible way to save America from certain destruction except through the efforts of the people.
Milton Friedman once said, “I do not believe that the solution to our problem is simply to elect the right people. The important thing is to establish a political climate of opinion which will make it politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing. Unless it is politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing, the right people will not do the right thing either, or if they try, they will shortly be out of office.”...........To Read More.....
My Take - Recently I had lunch with a friend who is in the Ohio legislature and this came up for discussion. She asked me if I thought an Article V Convention was a good idea. I said I have misgivings, but I think it needs to be done. As the conversation went on we discussed the dangers of such a convention.
First - there's nothing in the Constitution that gives Congress or anyone else the power to control or restrict what happens in a Constitutional Convention. The Convention that created our current Constitution wasn't sent there to create a new Constitution, it was sent to fix the Articles of Confederation. They threw the Articles of Confederation out entirely.
What happens if an Article V Convention decides to do the same thing to our current Constitution?
I kept thinking about this and went back to what I always do when confused about things - I review the history. Tell me the history and I will give you the answer! Then I realized what was the most important component of this issue. The moral and social paradigm that existed at the time. Then that foundation was one of Judaic/Christian values and principles, which was foundational to what went into the Constitution. That society no longer exists, and I fear any Article V Convention would be a disaster for the nation, and not a salvation.
My solution is the same as it's been for years. Repeal the 16th and 17th Amendments and pass a 28th Amendment creating term and age limits on the federal judiciary.
