One of the most fascinating speeches in the Bible happens in Acts 5, with Jewish Pharisee Gamaliel addressing the Sanhedrin. He warns them that if the message being preached by the Apostles of Jesus were of man, it would fail. But if it is from God, it can't be stopped........I find that passage particularly relevant today within American Christendom.
There is a reason why liberal Christian movements like those championed by Jim Wallis, Rachel Held Evans, Shane Claiborne, and others are so ineffective and unpersuasive in American culture. Rather than seeking to glorify and build the Kingdom of God, they regularly appropriate the language of Scripture to advocate for earthly, largely political causes that never address the principal need of humanity: salvation from sin..........
The passage she cites is actually Jesus warning His disciples about hypocrisy – the very offense Evans commits in a post meant to condemn Trump's crudeness while applauding it in others. This is the enduring problem with these liberal Christian movements. My Take - Let's try and remember these allegedly Christian leaders are supposed to believe in the Bible, understand it and teach it. They're doing none of the above. Which of course makes me wonder if they believe in the Bible at all, and whether or not they believe Christ's words mean anything to them, or if they even believe they're Christ's words. If they don't, who needs their churches......and .....who needs them? After all, you can get that kind of thinking from the New York Times.
Christian religion was co-opted from the very beginning.
The apostle John stated in the first century: "Rev. 2:6 "Still, you do have this, that you hate the deeds of the sect of Nicolaus, which I also hate." That was in the first century and apostacy was already becoming a problem, and that trend continued for the next 2000 years.
The apostle Paul stated in 2 Timothy 4: "For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear."
These religionists have corrupted the very foundational teachings of Christianity for their own gain, and delusionally believe they will not be recognized for who and what they are. But if one believes what the Bible says - clearly they're not fooling Christ - you know - they one they're supposed to believe in, follow and promote!
Matthew 7:22 states: "Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23. Then I will tell them plainly, "I never knew you" depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness".
These leftist religionists have adopted every concept of the left, all of which could easily be modern day equivalents of the teachings of ancient Baal worship, to which the Israelites also fell prey - including the sacrifice of their children to the fire pits of Baal. We don't murder our children in the fire pits of Baal worship, we murder them before their born in the sanitary pits of hospitals.
Homosexuality, promiscuity, prostitution were all religious tenets of the ancient world's religions. They're also the tenants of the left. And the "Christian" churches who embrace these practises are heretics. It really is that simple, and shocking as it may seem - the common people who read the Bible know it, and that's why the religious left is a failure.
However, the religious right hasn't done much better because they're afraid to speak out and condemn all the left, including leftist religionists. Name the last time a left wing Catholic was excommunicated? How did Ted Kennedy - an absolute supporter of abortion - get buried in the Church? Why is Nancy Pilosi - another absolute supporter of abortion - allowed to celebrate communion? It's claimed she's a devout Catholic. She clearly isn't, so why hasn't she been excommunicated?
Let me say this in the clearest possible terms. Anyone claiming to be a Christian and a Democrat ----- is guilty of heresy!
