My Take - Meryl, you're amazing! First off....it appears Hollywood has no end of awards they can give themselves and no limit to their level of stupidity. Also, brownshirts were fascist Nazi thugs who rioted, beat innocent people who disagreed with them and they were......and pay attention now Meryl.....they were socialists.
Fascists are the right wing of the socialist movement and communism is the left wing, but they're two sides of the same coin. And in America the Democrat party is at one with the socialist parties. And what do they do when they don't get their way? They riot! And who're doing the rioting in this nation? Leftists, Democrats, stupid university students, much of it planned and supported by people like Soros.....all socialists. Wow! That sounds like the Nazi brownshirts to me. What does that sound like to you?
Perhaps you refer to those who've criticized you so strongly. Well, I thought you understood freedom of speech. You practiced it in public and now you don't like it back. You abandoned your role as an entertainer and entered the political arena, willingly, and that's a bull fight....get over it.
All socialist's thoughts, policies, actions and schemes are antithetical to personal freedom. Unless you consider murdering your unborn baby, execution of the elderly they call suicide, sex with no boundaries, including with children, and the right to be supported by the government if you decide not to work, and the right to ignore any law you don't like......without consequences.
You says, “It isn’t helpful to make it us versus them,” but isn't that what you...and your Hollywood friends are doing? Yes, freedom is fragile, and the left has shown just how fragile that is. Fixing leftist insanities isn't damaging freedom - it's guaranteeing it.

Hillary called those who voted for Trump a "Bucket of Losers" and a "Basket of Deplorables." Now Streep, who like HRC (Human Rights Campaign Foundation) is an ardent Hillary supporter, was just presented an award by this progressive-left-leaning lobbying organization. In her acceptance speech Streep smears all Republicans. She, like Glen Beck viciously demeans any American who voted for President Trump by apparently referring to them as “Brownshirts” akin to radicals who were activists in Hitler’s National-Socialist German Workers’ Party NSDAP. Sadly, Streep can’t fathom why she is unappreciated and she’s disturbed that she has received hate mail, something Conservative Egalitarians are so use to receiving from leftists.
