The mainstream media are largely an extension of the Democrats’ communication arm — only more potent because media personalities do not advertise a “D” next to their name. As such, the stories they highlight and the spin they apply to such stories are generally geared towards narratives consistent with Leftist doctrine. The implicit goal, of course, is to advance the Leftist cause.
Thus, when an article at the Washington Post challenges a typical Leftist interpretation of the rise of Trump, and New York Magazine bashes the Post on Leftist grounds in a bout of Left-on-Left violence, such an episode is worthy of notice. Or at the very least, it is entertaining and illuminating.
The Post ran a recent headline claiming “A massive new study debunks a widespread theory for Donald Trump’s success.” The study was an extensive Gallup analysis of the electorate, and the theory was that Trump was performing well among poor whites in economically depressed areas of the country because he speaks to the concerns of those who live in such places. The theory further argued that such constituencies support Trump because they believe he will restore growth and prosperity to them.
The issue in question concerns what animates Donald Trump’s supporters from Appalachia to the “Rust Belt,” and the Left’s broad materialist view of all matters. Materialist interpretation, consistent with Marxian doctrine, looks at all issues through the lens of economics. .......See more
