Greece suspends state broadcaster ERT to save money

12 June 2013
The Greek government has shut down the public broadcaster ERT, calling it a "haven of waste".  Viewers watching the news on the main TV channel saw the screens go to black late on Tuesday evening.
All employees have been suspended pending a re-organisation. Thousands of people held a protest against the decision outside ERT headquarters.   It is the latest move in rafts of spending cuts and tax rises aimed at leading the country out of recession.
"ERT is a case of an exceptional lack of transparency and incredible extravagance. This ends now," government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou said earlier….To ReadMore….

My Take - This will be interesting to watch. All the news was filtered through these government run organs. All the money originated through the government. Conclusion? No one has a clue in Greece as to what is really going on, which may explain why there is so much resistance to bringing government spending under control.   They’re socialists and naturally insist that the government knows all and ‘is’ all.  Socialists have been spouting this claptrap forever and controlling the news forever.  So now the failure of socialism is coming home to roost and the people are demanding that they make good on their promises.  Promises that could have never been kept, because as Margaret Thatcher once said; “Eventually you run out of other people’s money.”
The U.S. is facing the same crisis, and the Main Stream Media has been misleading the public as badly as I’m sure the Greek media did.  The difference is the internet.  The internet has changed everything.  This will be interesting to watch because I get far more hits from Germany, Russia, Bulgaria, and the Ukraine than I do from Greece. I will be interested in seeing if that changes since Greeks will have to turn to other sources to get their news.
