Some time back I got into a discussion where one of the people at the table insisted that Hillary Clinton, as Secretary of State, was next in line for the Presidency if both the President and Vice President died. I tried to explain that wasn't true, that the Constitution’s line of ascension makes the Speaker of the House third in line, and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate was fourth, Secretary of State was fifth and Secretary of the Treasury was sixth. It didn't matter....he "knew" better. This is basic American history that everyone should have learned in elementary school, at least for the next in line after the Vice President.
So, here is the question for today’s history lesson.
1. Who is the President Pro Tempore of the Senate and how is he chosen and what does he do?
