Polls and Realty?

By Rich Kozlovich
I often wonder just who it is they are interviewing when they put out poll numbers.  Whether it is dealing with elections or people’s views about issues, I can’t help being amazed at the numbers.  Here in Ohio the poll numbers for the election indicate a leftward leaning population.  In reality, most people in Ohio are in actuality very Midwestern in their view of reality.  Then you go into the 51st state of the United States, AKA, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, of which Cleveland is the major metropolitan center.  It's a bit like the Soviet Socialist Republic of Massachusetts.
One of my accounts is a very prominent, very wealthy family that is also very conservative.  The wife told me that she doesn’t dare mention Romney among her bridge club friends.   That amazes me since her friends are among a group that comes from a socio-economic group that is …................Wealthy!  They have a lot to lose!

If they were on the public dole I could understand their views, but these are the people who will pay big time if this goes on, and quite frankly, if this spending regulatory trend continues they may lose everything.  Is that scaremongering? No!  That statement has historical foundation.  Get over it!

And where do they live?  Cuyahoga County!  Not in Cleveland, but in the wealthiest suburbs in the County, and a lot of this spills over into the county directly south of Cuyahoga, which Ohio’s wealthiest county: Geauga County.  The country where many wealthy Cuyahoga residents moved.
What also amazes me is how all of a sudden these people are all surprised that things didn’t work out they way they thought it would.

Why?

The man is doing exactly what he said he would do, weren't they listening?  If you really pay attention to what people say you will find that they will tell what they are going to do, but you have to pay attention.  What did they think Hope and Change meant?  What else could it mean except more taxes, more regulation and less jobs.   There was more than enough historical foundation to realize that is what it all had to mean.

And they’re surprised.  Imagine that.
