Now the Democrats genuinely get to say “both sides”, with packages containing explosives sent to the Clintons, Eric Holder, George Soros and others conveniently two weeks before a possibly history-changing midterm election. The blame is already being put on those whom Hillary called “deplorables” and a package sent to CNN will be blamed on President Trump for those “CNN sucks” chants at Trump rallies.

Somehow it is all too convenient, this “October surprise”. None of the named targets were really in danger, although others could have been hurt touching, picking up, or opening a package. The same could not be said when a Bernie Sanders supporter showed up at a baseball field in Alexandria determined to kill Republicans.

Back then we weren’t supposed to link that individual with the rhetoric of Sanders and other Democrats who warned that if the Republican agenda was enacted, millions would die.................
 

Why no one trusts the media to get the bombing story right

Andrew McCarthy writing at the National Review has some thoughts on the way the media is covering the attempted bombing of prominent Democrats.  Speculation is not "news" although many in the media are reporting it as such. In fact, as McCarthy points out, actual "facts" about the story are severely lacking, leading to broadly based blame casting on the right which has absolutely no basis in fact...............

 

Stop Apologizing for the Mail-Bomb Clown

For a while it appeared as though the GOP was shedding, at long last, its image as The Stupid Party — and along with doing so, positioning itself to take supreme advantage of the Democrats’ ideological and behavioral implosion for the foreseeable future, perhaps even as soon as the midterm elections in two weeks.

And then came Wednesday and Thursday, in which the lead news story was some 10 or so suspicious mail packages addressed to a number of political and cultural luminaries of the Left, none of which detonated like they were presumably supposed to and none of which displayed much craftsmanship as tools of political murder.  What those suspicious devices do appear to be is tools of political propaganda… for the Democrats. After weeks of intemperate and ill-advised statements aimed at riling up their base, whether it was the rah-rah idiocy of Maxine Waters, Mazie Hirono, and Corey Booker casting mob violence as “activism” or the exhortation by Hillary Clinton of her supporters to be “uncivil,” or Eric Holder telling Democrats to “kick” their political opponents, the Democrats had successfully cast themselves as the party of The Mob — and in so doing had turned off a great number of persuadable voters while at the same time insuring Republicans were every bit as motivated to vote as the Dems, if not more so.................

The Pipe-Bombs Story: Another Example of Why No One Trusts the Media

The political Left has been known to orchestrate frame-up attacks designed to make it appear that right-leaning opponents are responsible for violent acts and plots.

If I wrote the paragraph above in the context of reporting or commenting on the pipe bombs that were reportedly sent by an unidentified person or persons to prominent Democrats, many people would react angrily, and rightly so. After all, there is no evidence that the atrocious but thankfully unsuccessful targeting of the Obamas, the Clintons, CNN, George Soros, and Eric Holder (as well as “Debbie Wasserman Shultz,” whose Florida office, with her name misspelled, was given as the return address on some of the packages) was carried out by political leftists.

There is no proof that any Democrat was hoping to cast suspicion on Republican supporters, to suggest to voters, less than two weeks before the midterms, that Trump and GOP rhetoric incites violence. To intimate, in the absence of any proof, that left-wing agitators may be responsible would be a condemnable smear.

That’s why this paragraph, by the usually sensible Will Rashbaum in the New York Times’s report on the apparent attempted bombings, is so infuriating:...............

Insanity: Of Course, The Liberal Media Lost Their Minds And Blamed Trump (And His Supporters) For Bomb Scares

Yesterday was an insane day. CNN, the Obamas, the Clintons, George Soros, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), Robert De Niro, John Brennan, and former Attorney General Eric Holder were all targeted with explosive devices. Luckily, none of them went off, and no one was injured. CNN’s New York office was evacuated for a brief time.   Via NYT:........Oh, and CNN, the great defenders of truth (in its mind), was on the case (via THR):............So, who executed this extensive bomb scare against multiple top-level government officials, former presidents, and the elite media? We don’t know. That’s the point. We don’t friggin’ know, but it’s all President Trump’s fault or that of his supporters. Cue the meltdown, the accusations without evidence, and liberal pundits beating their chests, showing how this is a breakdown of American democracy. Cue the overreactions, cue the hypocrisy, and cue the Democrat-media complex working overtime to weaponize this for the 2018 midterms, though I’m not sure how much of an impact it will have.....................
