Firing Line was founded by William F. Buckley, Jr who also found a successful conservative magazine, National Review in 1955. Firing line began in 1966 and lasted for over 33 years by far the best in depth news program ever televised. It was deep, profound, provocative and unfailingly polite in spite of the divese personalities and opinions expressed on his various shows on every subject or social issue of his day - the same social issues that exist today.
Most of his guests were people with insights on the issues and were either in positions of power, influence, intellectuals and the audience was considered - high brow - which was a commentary on the lack of value of the main stream media.
By going back to post these shows it gives a long way in explaining how we got to where we are today. I only hope this will create a resurgent interest in this program.
