United Methodist Church Defies their Own Laws, Elects Lesbian Bishop

By Onan Coca

The United Methodist Church (UMC) leadership has done something that surprised many in their own flock – they recently ignored their own rules and elected an openly gay bishop.

The UMC elected Karen Oliveto, the senior pastor at Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco, to be the new bishop of the church’s Western Division this past week. Glide had been running against another longtime pastor, Sisofina Hingano, but Hingano withdrew his name from consideration to ensure Oliveto’s election. Hingano’s son, Wesley Hingano, is a homosexual, and his father hopes that Oliveto’s election will allow people like him to “walk through the doors to freedom in the church.”

Oliveto herself seems to believe that this is an important and positive moment for the Christian church. “I think at this moment I have a glimpse of the realm of God. Today we took a step closer to embody beloved community and while we may be moving there, we are not there yet. We are moving on to perfection.”

My Take - Did you ever wonder how the Methodist Church came to be named the Methodist Church?  Because originally they were "methodical researchers of the Bible", hence,  Methodists.  It's clear they've abandoned that concept.  People change, so is it possible they think that God does also?  So I'm not sure exactly what perfection this woman thinks they're moving on to.

Gibberish from politicians is expected, but the churches were supposed to speak Biblical truths boldly.  Perhaps they no longer research the Bible methodically?  Perhaps they aren't aware there are any Biblical truths?  Perhaps they're aware and no longer care so they refuse to accept them?

Or is it possible they're just heretics serving an organization of heretics who "will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires".  2 Timothy 4:3

Just a thought!
