Here’s a true Rip Van Winkle story. Jeremiah Denton, an American pilot who was captured in Vietnam in 1965, returned to a virtually different country when he was released in 1973. Consider the differences between the United States of 1965 and that of 1973. During those eight years the floodgates of pornography were opened. Abortion became legal and was becoming widespread. Many marriages floundered, and the divorce rate skyrocketed. While praising the court for civil rights gains he went on to say:
The Supreme Court had a lot to do with many of those changes, including pornography and abortion rights. During those eight pivotal years, we went from one nation under God to a nation that had basically lost its moral compass. Here's a point to ponder.Ruth Bader Ginsburg came out yesterday saying: "It's likely that the next president, whoever she will be, will have a few appointments to make,"......which is a round about way of promoting Hillary Clinton....and seemingly she would retire so Hillary could appoint another leftist justice....a much younger leftist justice that would contaminate the nation as badly as Ginsburg has for decades to come.
Ginsburg is 83 - 84 in March - and clearly failing, and there's a good possibility the next President will have to replace her anyway, if not in four years certainly in eight, but let's take a look at the rest of the court. Kennedy is 70 - same potential. Bryer is 77 - same potential. With Scalia the vote was nominally 5 to 4 favoring conservatives. Now it's 4 to 4 and it isn't favoring conservatives. Kennedy waffles like he's been pressed in a waffle maker.
Whomever wins in November will pick one justice to take Scalia's place, who was 79, and if that's Hillary she will appoint a liberal - a young liberal - and the numbers will be 5 to 4 with a complete domination by the left over the nation's legal system.
If Ginsburg retires the number count will remain the same. When Bryer retires the same scenario will play out. However, when Kennedy retires the number count will then change to 6 to 3.....and with more young leftists contaminating the court for decades. Sotomayor is 62 and Kagan is 56. With Scalia the average age was 70. Picture a Supreme Court with Scalia and Ginsburg gone and their replacements being around 50. That would change the average age to 63, with at least two young leftists on the bench. They will shred the Constitution - which they so obviously despise - beyond recognition.
I wrote this article, It's Time For a Twenty Eighth Amendment! on June 26, 2015 outlining the need for term and age limits for the federal judiciary. If anything I think it's needed more now than ever in this nation's history. Otherwise - I'm afraid we're going to face some violent times making Ferguson and Dallas look tame.
