“Harvard Needs Remedial Energy Math” — Robert Bryce

by Marlo Lewis on December 17, 2012 in Features

Environmental activist Bill McKibben and his organization, 350.org, are on a ”Do the Math” tour in which they urge colleges and universities to “divest their endowments, estimated at a total of $400 billion nationwide, from the fossil fuel industry.” …. “The International Energy Agency expects global electricity use to continue growing by about 450 terawatt-hours per year through 2035.”  The point? The world in 2011 had 240,000 megawatts of wind generation capacity, producing 437 terawatt-hours of electricity…….[this] would require the countries of the world to install about as much wind-generation capacity as now exists, and they’d have to do so every year.”….Put another way, just to keep pace with demand growth, the wind industry will need to cover a land area of some 48,000 square miles with wind turbines per year, an area about the size of North Carolina.”……Germany produced 19 terawatt-hours of electricity from solar. “Thus, just to keep pace with the growth in global electricity demand, the world would have to install about 23 times as much solar-energy capacity as now exists in Germany, and it would have to do so year after year.”…… ”we haven’t even considered the incurable intermittency of solar and wind, a problem that requires backup capacity from fossil fuels or nuclear power.”  To Read More….

My Take - The reality is they claimed that we needed 'alternative' energy because we were running out of fossil fuels.  That was a lie.  Then we were told we needed to convert to wind, solar, etc, in order to save the Earth from CO2 we were producing to prevent global warming.  That was baloney also!

The reality is there is no global warming that has ever been caused by mankind and we aren't running out of traditional energy sources.  And even if we went to these stupid energy production schemes that cannot in any way exist without subsidies of some sort, we would still have to maintain traditional energy production facilities 24/7 for those days when the wind didn't blow and the sun didn't shine, and the traditional power plants would still be producing CO2.

By the way.....during those times of the year when we need energy the most the wind doesn’t blow and the sun doesn't shine; as in mid-summer when the wind doesn’t blow often enough, or in mid winter when the sun doesn’t shine often enough.  But all 12 months of the year traditional power plants are up and running to provide the needed energy if ‘alternative’ energy schemes fail.  So that means what?  That means we are paying for energy we aren’t using to promote energy we don’t need.

Alternative energy is a parasite on the national energy grid.  In reality so-called alternative energy schemes are only alternatives to each other because they clearly are unable to be alternatives to coal, oil, natural gas or even nuclear energy production.

There is one more point.  It is most noteworthy that all these so-called alternative energy programs the greenies have been panting for all these years are ecological disasters, especially windmills, which are killing birds and bats at an astounding rate .  Bats are protected species and many of the raptors being killed by these slaughter mills are also protected.  And the hypocrites in the green movement are silent.
