Egypt’s NGO funding crackdown

Posted By Kenneth Roth
Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are essential to democracy and a key way for people of all political views to band together to influence public debate. But once more, the Egyptian government is threatening to restrict NGOs that receive foreign funds. Exercised about criticism from some of these groups, the ruling party is pushing a bill that would empower the government to decide which groups are allowed to receive foreign funding. That would invite the government to pick favorites, approving foreign funds for lapdogs while rejecting them for critics, particularly human rights groups.
But why are foreign funds so nefarious when received by NGOs yet apparently uncontroversial when received by others? The Egyptian military receives billions of dollars in aid from the United States; does that make it a subversive organization? The Egyptian government is desperately seeking foreign funds from the International Monetary Fund (IMF); is that an act of treason? Egyptian businesses are clamoring for foreign direct investment and the spending of foreign tourists; are these acts of disloyalty?....To Read More…..
My Take – This sentence is a real load of horsepucky.
"Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are essential to democracy and a key way for people of all political views to band together to influence public debate."
This whole NGO thing is a mixed bag.  As an example, Greenpeace is an NGO.  Would I want to have these people involved in anything?   Here’s what NGO’s really are; non-elected, non-accountable activists with an ax to grind who are funded by some very radical tax exempt foundations with goals that very often are unacceptable.
There are some who grind axes I agree with, but is it true NGO’s are “essential to democracy”?   The fact remains is the United States came into existence and created a society that pulled more people out of misery, squalor, suffering, disease and early death than any in human history - and there wasn’t one NGO in existence.
If Egypt wants a society that is different than the one he is creating it will happen irrespective of the appearance of these unaccountable busybody’s operating on the taxpayers tab.  Especially since so many of them are working against humanities best interests.
They make all sort of claims and demands and constantly interfere in everyone’s business and as far as I can tell ……as a group they don’t own businesses, and they don’t seem to have any expertise in any of the things they spout off about.  From a pesticide application perspective I can tell you that they are clueless, yet present themselves as experts and the media prints their ramblings as if it is great wisdom.   We have to understand they are funded by various radical tax free foundations and the federal government -non-earned income – to the point that no trade association in the world can stand against them financially.  It has been reported that the green groups worldwide take in more money that 60 of the world’s nations.   They have the ear of the mainstream media who repeat their idiotic claims and their ranks are filled with myrmidons as foot soldiers.
Well, if these people know so much about so many things,  I say let’s dump all the NGO’s and then watch to see what jobs these people can get.  Until then….I wouldn’t want them around either.
