Bloomfield opinion: Sustainable development

On the surface, sustainable development sounds benign and invokes images of doing what is necessary to protect our environment for future generations through implementing "green" initiatives, promoting economic growth, improving the quality of life while avoiding pollution, public health and congestion issues that accompany unplanned development, as opposed to the strictly regulated planned development of a central government, which is what sustainable development is all about……..Every time a grant is accepted, local control goes out the window because, in order for towns to receive the money, they must comply with the numerous strings that are attached.
This has dire consequences for citizens because they no longer can go to the ballot to oust those who implemented these programs because that control has been given to a non-elected bureaucrat once the money was accepted…..Centralized government planning of our towns takes away our rights and our vote, and gives it to bureaucrats who are not accountable to the voter.
