Observations From the Back Row

Two Al-Qaeda terrorists, one of whom plotted to kill thousands of people in a bomb attack on a British shopping centre, have launched an attempt to have their convictions quashed on human rights grounds. The pair have applied to the European Court of Human Rights after claiming MI5 was complicit in their torture by Pakistani security services, a claim that has already been rejected by British courts.  Officials at the European Court have allowed their application to go ahead rather than declaring it inadmissible, as they do with thousands of cases a year.  The Government must now respond to the claims, and if its explanation does not satisfy the court it will order a full hearing which, if successful, would almost certainly lead to the British courts being forced to quash the convictions.

My TakeMost people would consider this insanity.  Yet, to them this probably seems completely rational.   Islam demands jihad (killing innocent people in the name of their religion), therefore any attempt to punish them for practicing jihad must be a violation of their religious rights.  Unfortunately leftists in the west agree.  How can they be so insane?  It’s easy. When you embrace leftism you embrace atheism, as a result they abandon the idea that some things really are right and some things really are wrong.  Once that becomes the basis for their thinking anything can be acceptable, as long as it undermines Judaic/Christian principles and the American system.  That is what western leftist want so they can embrace Islamists in spite of the fact that if they took over the leftists would be the first they would kill.  As I said….insanity!

The bodies of more than 200 people were found in a town close to Damascus on Saturday, according to activists who said many were young men who appeared to have been killed by Syrian troops "execution style." Local activists initially reported finding 79 bodies, but 122 more were found later in the day. Most were found in houses and basement shelters of residential buildings and appear to have been shot dead by troops who had stormed the premises, they said.

Exclusive: Matt Barber exposes effort to 'stifle Christianity's profound influence on America'
The Reuters headline screamed: “Bacon found at NY Muslim celebration probed as possible hate crime.”….Condemnation was swift and judgment final: “It’s anti-Islamic sentiment – a sign they don’t want us to feel welcome,”……Except that it wasn’t.

A caller to a local newspaper took credit for the crime: “This is-I was reading the article about the horrible incident of bacon and Muslims in the park and I wanted to let you know that is not my intention. I had put the bacon there. It was going bad in my trunk and I put it out for the scavengers like the opossums and the raccoons and sea gulls, and I did not intend for that to cause anybody any problems.”

Bacon at a Muslim picnic? “Hate crime.” A crucifix with the image of Christ submerged in urine? “Art.” (Emphasis added)……

Still, what’s most remarkable is that secular-”progressives” and Islamists – such as the aforementioned CAIR and President Obama’s “Muslim Brotherhood” pals – have forged a bizarre and notably incongruous sociopolitical partnership……The only explanation, as far as I can tell, is best illustrated by the maxim: “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” But, who is this common enemy?  “The Americans combine the notions of Christianity and of liberty so intimately in their minds,” wrote De Tocqueville, “that it is impossible to make them conceive the one without the other.”….

As easy as it might be to forget them in the cobwebs of the AM radio dial, the liberal pretenders to the Rush Limbaugh throne are still broadcasting, and they're often utterly, shamelessly ridiculous. Case in point: Even Al Sharpton lamely used his radio show to defend Joe Biden's anti-Republican "they want to put y'all in chains" race baiting in front of a black audience.  Another case in point: Liberal radio hosts adore Harry Reid for making utterly unsubstantiated ugly charges that Mitt Romney evaded taxes for a decade. Bill Press has routinely declared his love for the tactic — even on CNN, where someone might have noticed. On "Reliable Sources," Press taunted the journalists who might want to play by the rules of evidence.

( – Ten U.S. immigration agents are suing Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director John Morton over a directive that “commands ICE officers to violate federal law.”  “We’re not enforcing law any more,” said Chris Crane, an ICE deportation officer and president of the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council. “It is pretty much just let everyone go,” he told reporters during a conference call on Thursday.  Crane and nine other ICE agents filed their lawsuit in federal court in Dallas on Thursday.

( – “Thinking of renting or selling a home or apartment?” asks the Environmental Protection Agency. “Make sure you disclose its lead-based paint history. Mr. Wolfe Landau did not and it cost him a $20,000 fine.”   Landau is one of the many landlords and realtors fined by the EPA for failing to provide an “EPA-approved” pamphlet to tenants seeking to rent or buy a house built before 1978.

And for the EPA, the non-compliance business is booming.  Juan Hernandez of Bridgeport, Conn., faces seven “Level 1” violations for failing to provide seven tenants with a copy of the “Protect Your Family From Lead In Your Home” pamphlet, which was mandated by the Residential Lead-Based Paint Hazard Reduction Act of 1992……The EPA told that under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) the agency has the authority to “inspect, subpoena documents, require testimony and bring civil administrative actions in target housing (housing, schools and daycares built before 1978).”
